Handicaps and scoring

Handicap adjustments

As a friendly society we have our own method of handicap adjustment aimed at weeding out Bandits and allowing fair competition for players of all abilities. The adjustments are based on your Stableford score after each game and your finishing position. It looks a bit complicated at first but you quickly get used to it.

Score 19 points or less - Gain 3 strokes

Score 20-25 points - Gain 2 strokes

Score 26-30 points - Gain 1 stroke

Score 31-36 points - Handicap remains the same

Score 37-38 points - Docked 1 stroke

Score 39-40 points - Docked 2 strokes

Score 41-45 points - Docked 3 strokes

Score 46-49 points - Docked 4 strokes

Score 50 or more points - Docked 5 strokes

In addition to the above the following adjustments apply

Lowest score (last place) Gain 1 extra stroke

Highest score (winner) Starting with a handicap of 10 or less - Docked 1 extra stroke

Starting handicap between 11 & 20 - Docked 2 extra strokes

Starting handicap of 21 or more - Docked 3 extra strokes

As an example a player starting on a handicap of 28 and winning a round with 50 points could be docked EIGHT strokes off his handicap for the next game.

Stableford Scoring System

Stableford is a scoring system with points allocated according to your position relative to the par score for the hole (nett).

Two or more over par = 0 points

One over par = 1 point

Par = 2 points

One under par = 3 points

Two under par = 4 points

Three under par = 5 points
