Our Friend Tim Aberdeen

A Tribute By Wearside Wanderers Golf Society Chairman Paul Marshall.

Sadly the society lost one of its stalwart members last year when our good friend Tim Aberdeen passed away on 26th December 2013, aged only 49.

Tim was much admired and liked by all in the society. Always up for a bit of fun, he was a ‘big’ character in every sense of the word; warm, friendly and just great fun to be with.

A fantastic golfer, despite his cack-handed grip, he could hit the ball a country mile and was always in contention for the trophies come the end of the season.

Whilst he was competitive and loved winning, he played the game with a smile on his face and it was always a real pleasure to share his company on the golf course… and afterwards during the post-match review in the nineteenth.

Tim will be very sadly missed by us all, but never forgotten.

In his memory we have renamed our singles knockout matchplay competition (formerly the President’s Cup) to the Tim Aberdeen Memorial Shield and we thank his mam and dad Pat and Angus, for providing the new trophy.

We’ve also set up this page so we can share a few memories and pay our own tributes. We hope it raises a few smiles – just as Tim always did.

Paul Marshall - WWGS Chairman
